Maki‑e pens
Our Pens
Our fountain pen barrels are made of 100% Japanese ebonite, except for the pens in the Kaijin Collection, which are made of high quality mother of pearl and ebonite. All of our pens feature Maki-e designs on them.
All of the pens in the Genkai, Mikado, Kaijin, 12Kaku, Densho and Yokozuna collections are ED (Eye Dropper) system fountain pens. The pens in the Takumi, Hakkaku, Hanryo and Hyotan collections use a C/C (cartridge/converter) system.
All of the clips on our pens are made of either gold or silver plated brass and are painted with genuine Urushi.
Eyedropper
- Unscrew the front section.
- Use eyedropper to fill ink up to the lower edge of the stopper.
- Tightly screw the front section back on.
- Unscrew the tail 1 mm–2 mm (1/32"–2/32") to allow ink to enter the front section.
Caution: If the tail is opened too wide, it may cause ink to overflow. - After use, hold the pen upward and tightly screw back the tail. The ink stopper will block the ink flow. The cap should be tightly closed on the pen.
Caution:- You may leave the pen in a horizontal position, with the nib and the tail open when it is not being used, but it should not be left with the nib downward and the tail open.
- The tail and the cap should be screwed on tightly when the pen is not in use.

Our pens are made of Japanese ebonite. Please see below for more information regarding pen size and specs.

The Available Nibs
#5, 18k gold nibs for Hanryo Collection, are available with F, M, B and stub.
#6, 18k gold nibs for Densho, akumi, Hyotan, are available with soft EEF, EF, F, M, B, BB and Stub, and Regular F and Stub are also available.
#8, 18k gold nibs for Mikado, Genkai, Sho-Genka, are available with F, M, B, and Stub.
The Available Clips
We use either gold‑plated, rhodium-plated or sterling silver clips for our pens. We also let our Maki‑e shi decide whether or not to paint clips; our Roiro‑migaki, Tame‑nuri, Nashiji‑nuri collections include pens with painted clips. Some customers may prefer unadorned clips that are gold-plated or made of sterling silver. Please understand that clips are based upon availability only, and an Urushi painted clip will cost an additional $100.00 MSRP, effective March 31, 2014.
