This series was thoughtfully designed with five peace loving festivals.
Every little touch has its meaning and uses various techniques and
pure gold and shiny Tamamushigai- shell Raden - very unique.
F25, Oshogatsu (The New Year)
The first day of the year. Between January 1st-5th, they celebrate
Oshogatsu in Japan, their most important holidays of the year. In
front of every house they place decorations with pine, bamboo and
Japanese apricots as shown on the cap. Hagoita (battledore) is a
very special item and some very costly wishing boys and girls' growth
are shown on the barrel.
F26,
Momono Sekku (The Festival for girls on March 3rd)
Also called Hina-Matsuri (Dolls Festival). Wishing girls' growth
and health. All colorful dolls will be decorated in the house to
celebrate for their girls.
F27,
Tanabata Matsuri (The Seventh Night of July)
Or Hoshi-no Sekku ( Star Festival on July 7th). Once a year, Orihime
(Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair) meet on July 7th in the sky, creating
the image of Ao-kinji (Gold Dust on Blue). Stars are made with Hirameji-kinji
and Tamamushigai-shell (a two-striped green buprestid) Also an image
of Orihime, Hikoboshi, shooting stars, and the Milky Way in the
sky. Wishing with Tanzaku (a strip of fancy paper for writing a
tanka/haiku) on hope reaching the sky. Every design is sowed with
gold dust and painted colors to make it soft tone.
F28,
Kiku-no Sekku (Chrysanthemum Festival on September
9th)
The moon is the symbol of silence. To create an autumn mood, Jimaki
(Base With Gold Dust) is made Nashiji/Kumomaki ( Putting mist in
the gold band. ) The color of Bekko (Tortoise shell) using Nashiji
is autumnal, and makes Jimaki an amber color. Lonely moon and Dango
(dumpling) are poetic charms of autumn. Chrysanthymum and sake cups
extend longevity. The flower represents autumn. The finish has been
made softer to enhance the autumn image.
The
Box: Tango-no Sekku (The festival for
boys on May 5th)
Helmets are symbolic of celebrating boys' growth. Koi-nobori means
strength, success in life, and prosperity. Kabuto is made with Taka
Maki-e. Painted colors in gold dust. The Iris flower (Shobu) is
a pun with victory or defeat (Shobu). Taking a bath with Shobu is
called Shobu-yu.(Shobu bath) In the stream of Iris are Tamamushigai-shells.
Kabuto is made with Kirigane (Gold Rectangular Gold Flake Set By
Hand) to enhance its splendor.
