The Exclusive Garden Colors

Japanese love and admire flowers. They sing for flowers, write for flowers and cry for flowers.  When one of our customers suggested to us that we should create a collection of colors strictly related to gardens.  It is easy to tell what colors can be the colors related to gardens, but it not easy for Urushi to make them, because Urushi limited to only six basic colors can only friendly mix with mineral pigments, as any botanical pigment will make Urushi colors darkened in the result.  When I asked one of our top Maki-e shi, Kogaku san about this, this talented, diligent and creative artist immediately accept any proposal and worked on it for more than three months and finally make 11 colors on our pens.

The first group of garden colors. All these colors are specially created by Kogaku himself. He spent a lot of time to find the right pigment to mix with very expensive Japanese made Urushi from Johouji of Iwate prefecture, cost around $500.00 a pound vs. around $100.00 for imported from China or Vietnam. MSRP $2,000.00 each in all colors. H-001M  Sakura-to Bara (Sakura and Rose)  by Kogaku (Koichiro Okazaki) on Mikado

H-001M

The author, Kogaku rarely seriously told me about his own special technique he used for the stone wall. While the stone wall was done by technique of Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e, he used dried Urushi powders in gold and green colors and also palladiuim painted with gradation technique to make the scene perspective from the front green garden too far away horizon, cloud and sky. To border the wall by Taka Maki-e technique and to sheer the line sprinkling #20 powders, etc.
